June Minutes

The Administrative Council met June 9, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. at Grace Center. Those present were Pastor Reg, Dwayne Wallace, Judy Johnson, Judy Timan, Ted George, Ginny Gleason, Sue Wolter, and Nancy Westering. Ted George opened the meeting with prayer. Minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter.

Education: Nancy Westering reported that Vacation Bible School will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church on July 31 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Missions: Judy Johnson reported that $200.00 was received for the food pantries, divided equally. Peace with Justice offering was $52.00.

UM Men: Dwayne reported that the Men served coffee on Mother’s Day. Next meeting will be on June 19.

UMW: Grace: Ginny reported. I just returned from Conference Annual Meeting in Des Moines for four days. WE finished more health kits as well as Layettes for Haiti going to UMCOR. WE have a grand total of sending 103 Health Kits and 18 Layettes for Haiti. We may finish more for Nigeria that will go in the fall at Ingathering. It is always great to have volunteers to sew and help with finishing kits. Our machines were really humming. We appreciate those taking the kits to Des Moines. Thanks, Sue Wolter, it was really appreciated!!!! The truck left for UMCOR on Tuesday morning. Tonight, we were invited to Jolley Guest Night. I am not sure if anyone could attend or not but it is a special evening. Tomorrow, we will have a business meeting for June since it is our regular meeting day at 1:00 p.m. Then we will join Pomeroy for a Guest Day which is always special. Several are planning to attend after our business meeting. Saturday is our Mission Study in Webster City Faith which I would like to attend. I will know more tomorrow for this is a very busy month. We will not meet in July and August; we will be doing service work at Bidwell Riverside in Des Moines and work at the KEY/D/SOAC clothing center in Fort Dodge (abuse center). Wesley: Judy Timan reported. Lydia Circle packed 3 layettes and 18 health kits which were taken to Annual Conference for distribution to Haiti and Chile. The Wesley UMW ladies are attending a Guest Day at Jolley this evening. Later this month we are invited to Lohrville. Our Guest Day is tomorrow. The UMW is sponsoring a drive for new underwear which will be taken to Bidwell Riverside in August for distribution through their clothing outreach.

UMYF: Nancy Westering reported that on June 23 UNITE is going to Valleyfair. On July 5 UNITE will meet at the Twin Lakes Conference Center for a fun day.

Pastor's Report: Pastor Reg reported that he has been working on VBS with Augustana. New coordinator for UNITE will be Matt Farndale . Pre-marital counseling for Kraft-Vetter wedding. Worked on implementing School for Ministry and will continue this after retirement. In April had several baptisms and receptions of new members. Attended Journey for Spiritual Retreat and Renewal in Scotland. Two funerals were held. Delivered Baccalaureate sermon for graduating seniors. Attended Annual Conference.

SPRC: Sue Wolter reported and discussed retirement services for Pastor Reg on June 20.

Trustees: Nancy Westering reported that on June 15 will pull carpet. Will paint after June 21 when Pastor Reg moves out. Will be installing new carpet. Need to wash windows and woodwork. Six people came to clean the parsonage grounds and church on June 5. Will need another work day to finish work at church. Will clean parsonage on June 22 and 23.

Lay Leader: Sue Wolter reported that the Conference stressed idea of worshipful work.

Treasurer's Report: Dwayne reported. May opening balance was $1699.67; May total receipts was $13,454.03; May total disbursements were $14,408.08; May ending balance was $745.52

Finance: Dwayne reported. Have paid all but one apportionment for this year. Operating disbursements (monthly bills) need a weekly average of $3,023 to meet total budget. Nancy Westering moved and Ginny Gleason seconded that the financial report be accepted.

Investment: Judy Timan reported. The Investment Fund has given Brendan George a contribution for his mission trip to Cairo.

New Business: : It was discussed how the congregation can personally meet Pastor Deb. Wesley & Grace Centers will have coffee and refreshments to welcome Pastor Deb on June 27 on her first Sunday here. Other opportunities to personally meet the new pastor will be available as well.
